SITUMET
Situation-Based Ubiquitous Meteorological Services

The aim of the research project SITUMET is to develop a new generation of meteorological services, based on innovative, regionally specific forecasting modules within the framework of an open platform. These services are ubiquitous and situation-dependent, that is, they are available in and for every location in any temporal and geographical resolution, and the content varies with the needs of the customers.

Based on the technology developed in the research project, weather information will be made available to suit a wide range of applications, systems and end devices. It will not only be possible to provide individual persons with information, but also to control telematics (for instance vehicle and household technology) and to feed information into other systems (navigation systems, electronic advertising boards, kiosk systems etc.) or into applications (for example Google Earth or augmented reality applications).

The supply of information to individuals is further extended by the concept of situation-based information, where the customer receives weather information that is customized to his or her situation (location, means of transport, activity etc.) and general profile (for instance profession or age). For systems, the current system state (vehicle speed and route, level of stored energy in a zero-energy house etc.) can be described using a situation model of the current system state, which determines the need for weather information.
