WIND IV
Weather Information on Demand

With the severe weather warning system WIND (Weather Information on Demand), UBIMET has access to a unique tool for sending warnings of severe weather, such as hail, strong winds and heavy rain. The logistic system was developed together with the renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Software and System Technology and allows UBIMET to warn thousands of users at the same time - quickly and individually via sms, email and fax. The system WIND is designed for individual adaptations and settings, for instance regarding the types of severe weather events (snowfall, heavy rain etc.), warning thresholds, transfer method (sms, mms, email, fax) and period for the warnings (no warnings at night, for instance). These settings can be made for particular user groups or by the end users themselves. Since the settings can be adjusted according to individual requirements, and since the system was built with open interfaces and flexible extension possibilities, WIND gives UBIMET the ability to respond to the individual needs of different target groups. Each costumer receives personalised warnings and safety instructions, which can be adapted dynamically to his or her location and the time of day.

UBIMET received the "Mercur-Price for the most innovative service" of the year 2006 by the Chamber of Commerce of Vienna for the severe weather warning system WIND IV.
