Individualized, nowcasting-based, dynamic storm and catastrophe alert system.

In the INDUS project, a new temporally resolved, internationally scalable severe weather and catastrophe alert system was developed, enabling meteorologists to individually specify weather information. INDUS – as a holistic severe weather and disaster information system – deals with meteorological input regarding severe weather alerts, management, and distribution of these alerts to end users, in particular. UBIMET developed a powerful and highly individual transmission engine in cooperation with Fraunhofer ISST. This specific engine allows alerts to be simultaneously sent via text message and e-mail to several thousand recipients in a variety of languages. INDUS can be used in both Central Europe and Central Eastern Europe. UBIMET’s role in this project involved the further development of existing prediction methods and new methods for the forecast of storm trajectories.
