July 2019 to June 2022
Executive summary
In times of complex supply chains and “just-in-time” approaches in logistics as well as the steadily increasing travel traffic, smooth handling of transport processes is becoming increasingly important. However, many external factors are beyond the control of the transport company:
In addition to extreme weather events, the lack of availability of parking spaces is a challenge. Solutions are therefore required that minimize the effects of unforeseen disruptions, identify available parking space and thus create added value for the logistics industry.
The aim of the project is to develop software solutions that support freight and long-distance bus companies with route and deployment planning and more precise calculations of the expected time of arrival (ETA), taking the weather into account. Together with forecasts of the availability of parking spaces, this information forms the basis of the service portfolio to be developed. UBIMET supports the project with reanalysis data and data analytics to find correlations between measured travel time (via GPS tracks) and weather conditions.
